Primary Care Physicians

"Substance abuse and addiction is the leading cause of death, disability and disease in the United States today. It costs society close to half a trillion dollars every year and the numbers continue to climb. America's primary care physicians, as the gatekeepers of our healthcare system, have a unique opportunity to intervene to avoid these devastating consequences. About 70 percent of the population--about 191 million Americans--see one of the more than 255,000 primary care physicians at least once every two years. Americans make almost 200 million visits each year to general and family practitioners."

- National Survey of Primary Care Physicians and Patients on Substance Abuse Conducted by the Survey Research Laboratory, University of Illinois at Chicago April 2000

Addiction is an undeniable problem within our society. Here at Precision Labs, we believe that a Physician is more effective at treating a patient when they have a more exacting view of whom it is seeking help. This knowledge not only helps in the fight against addiction, it also helps prevent drug to drug interactions, and lowers a physicians liability in treating their patient.

Here's the reality...

Most patients (with substance abuse issues) said their primary care physician did nothing about their addiction

  • 43% said their physician never diagnosed it
  • 11% said the physician knew about their addiction but did nothing about it
  • Less than one-third of primary care physicians carefully screened for substance abuse

The vast majority (94%) of primary care physicians (excluding pediatricians) failed to diagnose substance abuse when presented with early symptoms of alcohol abuse in an adult patient

  • 41% of pediatricians failed to diagnose illegal drug abuse when presented with a classic description of a drug-abusing teenage patient; these physicians and pediatricians failed to include substance abuse among the 5 diagnoses they were asked to suggest
  • Most patients said their primary care physician did nothing about their addiction
    • 43% said their physician never diagnosed it
    • 11% said the physician knew about their addiction but did nothing about it

Our drug test panels were designed by experts, to guide clinicians through the process of conducting a thorough assessment to develop a treatment plan that addresses pain, function impairment, and psychological symptoms. This will provide confidence in monitoring patients for relapse, abuse, or diversion.

Medication Monitoring serves many purposes such as:

  • Identify, deter, or prevent drug abuse
  • Facilitate and encourage the identification, intervention and treatment of persons addicted to prescription drugs
  • Monitor and support medical decisions about patient medication therapy
  • Detect medication diversion
  • Avoid possible drug-drug interactions

Our Medication Monitoring services equip the physician/facility with all of the resources to seamlessly order tests and review results via our instant online web portal or our EMR/EHR integration services. We truly believe in the importance of medication monitoring for both the patient and the physician and we are dedicated in providing a precise and reliable service.

We provide both Immunoassay Testing and a confirmatory Testing known as Liquid Chromatography Mass Tandem Spectrometry (LC MS/MS) to equip physicians with a clear and precise view of what they are treating.

We believe physicians should consider confirming any qualitative results utilizing our Gold Standard LC MS/MS urinalysis to eliminate false positive/negative results, tampering of samples, and provide confidence and measurable results. LC MS/MS also provides your practice with the opportunity to test for many more drugs and drug classes than a typical "rapid drug test" option.
